Code of Ethics Review - 2010

Engineers Australia has recently commenced a review of its Code of Ethics under the guidance of its Commissioner for Ethics and Discipline, Rolfe Hartley FIEAust CPEng Eng Exec. The last review was undertaken 10 years ago.

A driving force in the conduct of the review is a recognition that the engineering and social environments have changed in the intervening period since the last review.

The key objectives of the review being undertaken by Engineers Australia will be to produce a Code of Ethics:

  • comprising a simpler structure and a style more accessible to and easily understood by members, students, consumers and external stakeholders
  • with better links to the demonstration of ethics competencies in chartered/registration assessments
  • better reflecting contemporary engineering practice applicable to collective professional conduct, as well as to individual ethical decision-making; and which
  • provide a more effective basis for disciplinary action.

A discussion draft has been developed as the basis for consultation with members and key stakeholders.

This is your code and we want your views on the discussion draft revised Code of Ethics.
