National Committee on Applied Mechanics Face-to-Face Meeting
On the 27th September 2011 the National Committee on Applied Mechanics held a face-to-face meeting at the University of Queensland in Brisbane.
6th Australasian Congress on Applied Mechanics
The National Committee on Applied Mechanics of Engineers Australia proudly hosted ACAM 6 from 12-15 December 2010 in Perth. This conference provided an international forum for researchers, industry practitioners, engineers and postgraduate scholars to promote, exchange and disseminate knowledge and experiences of the most recent results and conceptual advances in a wide range of topics in Applied Mechanics
When: 12 - 15 December 2010
Where: Perth Convention Centre, Perth

ACAM 2007 (ACAM 5)
The 5th triennial Australasian Congress on Applied Mechanics was held on 10-12 December 2007 in Brisbane, QLD. It was a very successful gathering with over 120 delegates attending. Papers were presented on a wide range of topics in applied mechanics, including keynote addresses on biomechanics; non-destructive testing of large structures; design considerations for the new ANSTO reactor; real-time hybrid testing of a structure's response to seismic activity; counter-intuitive problems in 3D dynamics; and the latest work on characterising nano-composites.
The proceedings of ACAM 5 are available from: http://espace.library.uq.edu.au/view/UQ:119828
The National Committee on Applied Mechanics thanks the Congress Organising Committee for their efforts in making ACAM 5 a most enjoyable and informative event.
Information on the next ACAM, which is planned for 2010, will be available later this year.
2007 Eminent Speaker: Dr Martin Williams
The National Committee on Applied Mechanics invited Dr Martin Williams, Reader in Structural Engineering and Deputy Head of the Department of Engineering Science at Oxford University to take part in Engineers Australia's Eminent Speaker Programme in late 2007. Dr Williams travelled to Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane to present a seminar on Dynamic Crowd Structure Interactions in Stadium Structures. His talk described the analytical and experimental research being conducted at Oxford to develop a realistic model for the response of stadium structures to coordinated crowd movements, such as crowds moving to a musical beat. The seminars in each city were very well attended and generated a great deal of interest and discussion, especially from those working in the area of stadium design and assessment.
Dr Williams' presentation was recorded in Brisbane on 06/12/07 and is available from: http://eaq.mediavisionz.com.au/default07.asp
2006 Eminent Speaker: Dr Russell Wanhill
