About Us

The key purpose of the CELM is to enhance professional opportunities for members of Engineers Australia by developing, recognising and promoting their ability to participate in and lead business, innovation and change.

The Objectives of CELM are to:

  • To promote engineering leadership and management by raising awareness and expectations of excellence with individuals, business, government and the wider community
  • To encourage and empower more engineers to build on their professional engineering disciplines for leadership and management roles
  • To attract and retain members of Engineers Australia, and to re-engage the interest of members whose careers now encompass broader disciplines and responsibilities
  • To offer opportunities for personal development and recognition of achievements.

CELM National Board

Within the governance framework of Engineers Australia, the activities of CELM are supported by the CELM National Board, which provides policy and strategic direction, and develops certain common initiatives. Its members are appointed by the National President, are volunteers and serve for a two year term.

Dr Bronwyn Evans FIEAust EngExec - Chair

Dr Evans is Senior Vice President, Quality and Regulatory, with Cochlear Limited. Dr Evans has more than 25 years experience in engineering roles in power generation and distribution, education with almost ten years experience in the medical device industry. In her current position she is responsible for strategic leadership in Quality Assurance, Regulatory Affairs, Validation Engineering, Documentation Systems and Reliability for Cochlear's Global operations. In 2007 Dr Evans was recognized as one of Australia's 25 Most Influential Women Engineers by Engineer's Australia. She is a member of the University of Wollongong School of Electrical, Computer and Telecommunications engineering Advisory Committee.

Mr David Hudson FIEAust 

David joined the Board in November 2006. David is the former Managing Director of Barclay Mowlem and currently Executive General Manager Risk Management with Leighton Holdings. He is a vice -president of the Australian Constructors Association, a member of the Austrade Infrastructure Advisory Board, and of UTS's Faculty of Engineering Industry Advisory Network.

Mr John Phillips FIEAust CPEng EngExec

A former Chairman of GHD Pty Ltd (1999-2002), based in Perth WA. John is the inaugural Chair of the CELM WA Chapter, a member of the Australian Institute of Company Directors, and has extensive strategic management, governance, engineering consultancy, and international advisory experience.

Dr Mark Toner FIEAust CPEng EngExec 

Dr Toner is a former Chief Executive of Kvaerner E&C Australia (now Aker Solutions) and a company director and management consultant with Toner & Associates. He is Chairman of Calsmelt Pty Ltd, Immediate Past Chair of Australian Science Innovations and a Director of the Trans Tasman Commercialisation Fund. He was formerly Chair of the CSSIP CRC, Deputy Chairman of Melbourne IT Ltd, a Board Member of The Hiser Group, President of the Business/Higher Education Round Table, Chairman of the Institution of Chemical Engineers in Australia, and an Adjunct Professor in the Faculty of Engineering at Monash University. He is the CELM Board's representative on Congress.

Dr David Cruickshanks-Boyd FIEAust EngExec  

David is the Regional Director for Parsons Brinckerhoff in South Australia. His special area of interest is Engineering Leadership. He is passionate about the development of an organisational culture which delivers long term strategic benefits to PB's clients, and enables professional staff to be the best they can be. Since 2002 he has led PB through an aggressive growth phase to the point where the firm now delivers many of the State's most significant infrastructure projects. David has a strong interest in Corporate Social Responsibility and is on the EA national steering committees for the Year of the Humanitarian Engineer, the Reconciliation Action Plan and the national Ethics Committee.

Mr Douglas Gillott FIEAust CPEng  

Ex Officio Member

Doug Gillott was elected to the Engineers Australia Council in November 2010 and joined the CELM Board ex officio when appointed National Vice President Engineering Practice. Doug is a consulting mechanical engineer specialising in engineering management systems and asset management. He is the Immediate Past President of South Australia Division having served on Engineers Australia Division Committees and Congress over more than ten years. In 2009 he initiated the SA Division Parliamentary Fellows Program to bring engineering leaders together with the community's leaders.
