Guide to Best Practice for Safer Construction
The Safer Construction Project examined OHS practices at the design, procurement, construction and commissioning stages of built assets in order to develop a guide for practice and supporting tools. This project brought together stakeholders across the supply chain of the project – ensuring a whole-of-industry solution.
The key outcome of the project is the Guide to Best Practice for Safer Construction – designed to integrate OHS into strategic decision-making by owners, clients, designers and constructors in order to reduce workplace injuries within the construction industry. It addresses safety principles and practices for key stakeholders that influence safety in the Australian construction industry and it will help guide the procurement, design, construction and commissioning of safer projects.
The Guide to Best Practice for Safer Construction has been developed following significant review of practical Australian and international best practice initiatives to identify the key processes that create a safer construction industry. It will educate industry on how worksites can be made safer, resulting in fewer deaths and a reduction in injuries, leading to higher productivity and a better quality built environment.
It includes a practical toolkit to support industry's delivery of safer projects.
