NOTE FROM THE CHAIR

Colleagues

As Chairman of the National Committee for Construction Engineering (NCCE), I wish to thank you for your great response to our request for more involvement from our members. Your names have been passed to the respective state representatives for follow up.

It is with great sadness that we advise that Bill Blake passed away on 31 August after a lengthy illness. Many of you know that Bill was a very active member of the National Committee for Construction Engineering. The guideline document "Preparing Construction Agreements" was written by Bill Blake, a registered professional engineer and solicitor specialising in construction law and is endorsed by Engineers Australia's National Committee for Construction Engineering. This is a most useful document on the preparation of construction agreements, prepared for practising engineers faced with the often-daunting task of preparing agreements and supporting documentation. This publication is still available through EA books.

NCCE September Meeting

The NCCE met in Brisbane on 5th September with the primary focus of the meeting being the development of a suitable course programme for Construction Engineers approximately four years after graduation. The committee was augmented by the attendance of John Anderson who is EA's director of Engineering Practice. The course material discussed focused on the construction engineer's development in Contact Management, Design Management, Project Management, Risk Management as well as OH&S Management. These topics have been selected as they best address your needs as identified in the recent survey of the membership. The committee is working hard to make these courses a reality in 2012.

Website

We are upgrading our website to include names of the NCCE panel members with short bios to help you identify your local representative should you wish to contribute to our important work.
