Who are engineers and what do they do?
Engineers Australia South Australia Division would like to invite you to attend our annual Teacher’s
Night.
A number of engineering graduates will discuss the pathways that have lead them to engineering,
the opportunities it has allowed them and the experiences they have had. This is a great opportunity
to find out exactly what engineers do so that you can better inform your students about the
pathways available through the vital subjects of mathematics and science.
Engineering is a discipline which is likely to remain a ‘skill in demand’ for the foreseeable future.
It also represents a diverse and rewarding profession with career paths offering excellent
remuneration and exciting opportunities, both in Australia and worldwide.
Currently there is a disturbing decline in the number of young Australians studying science and
mathematics at secondary school level. The effects of this are seen in a corresponding trend in the
study of engineering at tertiary level.
Engineers Australia is committed to promoting the benefits of engineering, as a career, to school
students. We are sure that you will gain valuable information from this night, enabling you to
assist us to inspire the next generation of Australian engineers.
