About Us
Sydney Division of Engineers Australia is the largest of the nine Divisions with approximately 18,000 members state-wide. From the Engineering Excellence Awards to Australian Engineering Week, Sydney Division conducts numerous annual events that allow engineering professionals an opportunity to publicly demonstrate and celebrate their skills and achievements, whilst also encouraging young students to consider the profession.

Division President
Ian Ackland FIEAust, CPEng, MEIANZ, CEnvP
Ian Ackland is a Chemical and Environmental Engineer who currently works with NATA Certification Services International (NCSI) as a Certification Auditor for Environmental, Safety and Quality Management Systems. His career has encompassed a variety of positions and employers from Australian Iron & Steel Port Kembla (now Bluescope Steel); NSW Department of Education (High School Maths and Science Teacher); Sydney University Chemical Engineering Department (Research Assistant); NSW SPCC which became NSW EPA (now DECCW); Rail Access Corporation , and Rail Infrastructure Corporation.
After a number of years as a member of Sydney Division Committee of Engineers Australia, Ian has now been elected to the position of President. He has been a member of the Engineering and Assessment Subcommittee for many years, which has a focus on promoting the engineering profession to primary and secondary school students. This is a very rewarding committee to be a part of.
Besides Engineers Australia, Ian is a NSW Division Committee member of the Environment Institute of Australia and New Zealand (EIANZ), a Certified Environmental Practitioner (CEnvP) and a member of the Certification Board for CEnvP. He is also a member of Lions Clubs International, having held all Board positions at club level, with more than 22 years experience.
CPD is an important aspect of Ian's professional life, and he has recently completed the APESMA-Latrobe MBA (Technology Management) by distance education, which is an invaluable qualification for this present role.
