Sydney Engineering Excellence Awards 2010

The Engineering Excellence Awards recognise the expertise of individuals and engineering organisations.

They help achieve the goal of raising the professional standing of engineers by generating a greater public awareness of who engineers are and what they do.

In 2009 a total of 97 entries were placed in Level 1, the highest number of entries ever received into Sydney Division's Excellence Awards.

Four 2009 Excellence Awards winners went on to take out major National Awards as well as Adrian Clark being presented with the National Award for Young Professional Engineer of the Year . Six Award winning projects are now on display at the Powerhouse Museum. This display will be seen by over a half a million Museum visitors throughout the year.

Engineering Student of the Year Award

Entries are now closed and will re-open in 2010

This Award is to recognise excellence in project work performed during the senior years of Bachelor of Engineering Courses leading to Corporate Membership of The Institution of Engineers Auatralia. The overall winner will be presented with The Student of the Year Award.

The Award will be based on a written submission prepared by the student. The submission must cover a significant engineering design and/or development task of the type often required of students during the final year of undergraduate study. The work must have been completed during the 2008 Academic Year. It is anticipated this submission would be virtually identical to a report the students would normally need to submit as part of the requirements of their chosen Engineering Course.

The Award involves submission of the student's final year Thesis Report for Assessment. It is necessary for all entries to be first assessed by the appropriate University Faculty.

Submissions are assessed on criteria relating to communication skills, high standard of engineering design and/or development skills, professionalism, meeting the needs of the end user and/or the wider community.

It is envisaged all entries will be first assessed by the appropriate University Faculty. Only the five (5) best entries from each Faculty can be submitted for final assessment by Engineers Australia, Sydney Division. Please see the PDFs below for further information including conditions.

The Award carries a monetary prize of $1500 for the overall Student of the Year Winner. The Awards will be presented at the 2009 Engineering Excellence Awards evening at the Westin Sydney, Friday 18 September.
