Honeywell Summer School

***** The Honeywell Engineering Summer School is now full for 2009 *****
Please note: HESS registration will re-open in May 2010

The Honeywell Engineering Summer School (HESS) takes place in December each year and brings together 100 Year 11 students who are interested in pursuing engineering as a career.  In past years students have come from all over NSW and the ACT, including regional and city centres such as Broken Hill, Tumbarumba and Inverell.

Throughout the week-long program, students are introduced to six universities, including University of Sydney, University of New South Wales, University of Western Sydney, University of Technology Sydney, Macquarie University, and University of Wollongong. The students are also taken behind the scenes of some major engineering companies and projects to see engineers at work.

HESS is a great experience full of practical engineering activities, a careers evening, and other evening social programs. The HESS students are mentored by students from the host university (University of New South Wales)  and accommodated at Sydney University Village (SUV), Newtown.

HESS is an initiative supported by Engineers Australia - Sydney Division, Honeywell, NSW Engineering Universities and participating Rotary Districts.

The 2009 Honeywell Engineering Summer School is being held 6-11 December. For more information please contact Aimee Najdovski on 02 9410 5613, or access the HESS brochure below.

Places are limited, so please place your application form together with your most recent school report, as soon a possible.

Testimonials:

"As I finished year 10, I knew I liked maths, science and design & technology, although I was unsure about my career prospects or what subjects to choose for my HSC. Engineering appealed to me but I did not know much about the courses available or the engineering career opportunities that existed. Living in regional NSW, it was hard to understand any courses that were offered. The Honeywell Summer School provided me with the chance to better understand engineering, give access and information to the universities and their courses and also to visit engineers working on projects. I was able to define my career aspirations. I have now completed my engineering degree and am working in one of Australia's superior construction companies - Abigroup Contractors. Thanks to The Honeywell Summer School I was able to identify my career direction, which is hard at such a young age. I would recommend to any HSC starters considering engineering as a career to attend the Honeywell Summer School, to gain clear insight into the vast opportunities that engineering offers in many fields."  Glen O'Brien
