A discussion of the flow assurance challenges caused by paraffins or wax. The dual problems of wax deposition and gelling are discussed, with reference to field examples. Sampling and laboratory testing is described in order to properly assess the key parameters to define a project’s likely flow assurance challenges. Various different inhibition / remediation solutions are briefly discussed before the required test work needed to select wax inhibitors or pour point depressants for use under Browse basin-like conditions is presented. Finally, such laboratory test results are interpreted and the results are translated to the field in the form of real case histories.
