Brisbane Central Library Innovative Book Handling System Tour

Brisbane City Council installed an innovative book handling system in Brisbane Central Library. The primary components are a conveyor system which traverses multi-levels in the building and an automated book sorting system which orients the books into a position for reading the bar code and then sorts the books into waiting trolleys for dispatch to the library shelving areas. The result is a system which allows the books to travel efficiently from the book return chute to the shelf with minimal handling. This reduces manual task injuries and is more productive.
