The amount of heavy industry engineering work done in WA now exceeds the value done in the rest of Australia combined, and the projections are for the sector to continue to grow strongly. The majority of this work is done in very remote locations. It is critical we get the delivery of the work right.
There are many challenges to be overcome in successfully managing the delivery of regional projects, including the lack of existing infrastructure, the lack of local amenities, the need for local Community engagement, remote site supply logistics, limited local resources, escalating costs, the desire for local content, indigenous engagement, environmental restrictions, and workplace management under FIFO operations. It is intended that the Conference will provide a platform for some of these critical issues to be raised and discussed amongst the Engineers who are actively engaged in regional engineering, and through the discussion provide ideas and insights on how to improve the delivery of regional projects.
The Conference will engage delegates in reflecting on and considering how we as a profession can better manage the delivery of regional projects, and in so doing improve the outcomes for the local communities, the project developers, and for us as engineers.
