IPWEA Heavy Vehicle and Road Infrastructure Forum

Nationally, local government manages more than $212 billion in non-finnancial assets and raises about 3% of the total taxation. With limited revenue raising powers, population growth, ageing infrastructure and rising community expectations, councils struggle to deliver services as well as maintain and construct road infrastructure. Under this backdrop and to secure our future prosperity, stakeholders in the roads sector need to come together and build on existing local, state and federal programs and leverage all opportunities to better manage the road infrastructure network to meet the growth in heavy vehicle movements.

The aim of this panel discussion is to enable delegates to fully appreciate the current impact on the use of heavy vehicles on road infrastructure and hopefully identify new ways of managing the road networks to meet the growth in heavy vehicle movements. Chairman – Bob Seiert, former CEO – Civil Contractors Federation.

Panel discussion participants:

  • Ian Mann – Director, CT Management (currently producing an MAV report on Heavy Vehicle Access to the local road network)
  • John Olsen – Director, HDS (specialist in road design, particularly in relation to heavy vehicles)
  • Gerard Nicholson – Transport Manager, Fonterra Eastern Region (TBA- a Fonterra driver will also participate in the discussion)
  • Ken Beer – Senior Road Safety Engineer, VicRoads (to detail the damage done to roads by heavy vehicles)
