Short Description Bob Post (URS Transportation Director, Portland USA) will deliver a talk on the development of LRT’s in city environments like Sydney. The talk will particularly examine experiences from developing LRT and ‘Streetcar’ projects in the USA, from planning, design, construction and on to operation and maintenance. The talk will cover some of the key issues and risks of LRT projects and Bob will consider examples from numerous projects from around the USA, particularly concentrating on the development of the Portland LRT system.

Experiences from Developing LRT systems in the USA

Guest Speaker: Mr Bob Post (URS Transportation Director, Portland USA)

Bob Post will deliver a talk on the development of LRT’s in city environments like Sydney. The talk will particularly examine experiences from developing LRT and ‘Streetcar’ projects in the USA, from planning, design, construction and on to operation and maintenance. The talk will cover some of the key issues and risks of LRT projects and Bob will consider examples from numerous projects from around the USA, particularly concentrating on the development of the Portland LRT system.Bob Post has 40 years’ experience in the transportation field, with a number of senior management appointments with TriMet (Portland Transit Operator) prior to joining URS. He is the Transportation Director for the Portland URS office and also serves as a regional transit market segment manager. He leads industry peer reviews for policy, planning and implementation programs with a focus on the implementation of major capital projects, strategic and policy planning and day-to-day operations management. Bob is recognized throughout the transit industry for developing innovative and cost-efficient solutions with particular experience in the development of LRT and Streetcar projects in the USA. Project experience includes:

• Project Manager, South-North Light Rail Project planning and PE phases, Portland, Oregon
• Project Manager, Broadway Corridor Transit Study (BRT, Light Rail, SkyTrain), Vancouver, BC

• URS Principal-In-Charge, Portland Mall, Salt Lake City Initial Segment, San Diego East Mission
