This lecture tells the story of how a Sydney based company, Bishop Innovation Limited, developed a new valve technology for the internal combustion engine, sold the concept to Mercedes Ilmor and engaged in a ten year collaboration with Mercedes Ilmor to develop the technology for use in the Mercedes Benz Formula One engines, only to have competing car companies successfully organise to have the technology banned shortly before it was scheduled to make its Formula One debut.
