Engineering Heritage Australia (Queensland) - Technical Presentation.

EVENT TOPIC:

'An Illustrated Paper - TC Deverell: and eminent Queensland engineer?'

INTRODUCTION:

Thomas Deverell was a Scottish-trained engineer who worked in Brisbane and South Brisbane Municipal Councils in the 1880s and 1890s, supervising and working with fellow Scot, James Louttit, whose biography appears in the EA Queensland Division publication "Eminent Queensland Engineers, volume II", edited by Geoff Cossins.

SPEAKER:
Bill Oliver, a member since 1980 of Queensland Division’s Heritage Panel, has compiled a biography of Deverell, whose life was colourful indeed - prior to, during and after his 14 years of employment in Woolloongabba and South Brisbane.
Oliver deplores the falling from usage of the term "Sanitary Engineering", a subject in which his politically casual shire engineer uncle succeeded with honours after WWII.
