Years 10 - 12 students are invited to visit our City campus and take part in a range of workshops and info sessions from across our different course areas at UTS. Students can cater the day to their interests - choosing to take part in a single workshop or a full day of activities.
Students can take part in the following Engineering and IT activities:
| Web Development | You use the internet everyday but have you ever made a webpage? When you use facebook, you are relying on digital media to present ideas or tell a story about yourself, just like a website. In this workshop you will build on these skills to learn how to make a simple website using html and gain the tools to go home and try it on your own. |
| Intellipaper | Imagine being outsmarted by a piece of paper in a game. The UTS Programmers Society challenges you to beat Intellipaper in Noughts and Crosses. See how artificial intelligence is produced through programming logic, which is also used in everyday applications such as Facebook and Twitter. |
| Game On! | Did you ever want to create your own computer game? Here is your chance. You will work in pairs to design a computer game, decide on the rules and add your own design touches. The game will be published on the web and available for anybody to download and play. |
| Civil Engineering | Civil engineers build and maintain the big things in life – roads, bridges, tunnels, houses, offices, shopping and residential complexes, water and sanitation systems and other infrastructure. Find out what Civil Engineers do and learn what civil engineering is all about. |
| Engineering – What is it? | Civil • civil and environmental • information and communication technologies • innovation • electrical • mechanical • mechanical and mechatronic • Find out what engineering is all about, from its many disciplines to its many interactions with varying professions. |
| Mousetrap Racers | Engineers are working to make vehicles more efficient, so that they can travel the furthest distances possible, whilst using the least amount of fuel. In this activity, build and race your very own Mousetrap racer! How does it work? Can you improve your design or method in order to beat your class mates? |
| Back to Bedrock |
Get your hands dirty and explore Geotechnical engineering challenges with earthworks. In this activity, you will learn how to design and construct structures on top of soft soils. Find out why the Tower of Pisa is leaning, and test your knowledge and skills in our design and construction competition. |
| Surface Mount Technology | Surface Mount Technology is directly attributable to the explosion in the everyday use of such devices as: iPods, MP3 players, mobile phones and laptops. Use these same techniques to construct your very own working key-ring "torch" to take home. |
| Information Communication Technology (ICT) - the student perspective | What's ICT Engineering? What are the opportunities in ICT Engineering? Hear about this engineering field from the perspective of 2 Software and Telecommunications students. |
