Members and their guests are invited to attend the Northern Group Annual General Meeting and Ordinary Meeting. The dinner following the meeting will include a presentation by Mr Neal Albert from the Office of Environment & Heritage.
Neal is the Senior Floodplain Management officer within the Office of Environment & Heritage and will be presenting on the role and development of urban and rural flood plain management plans. Considering the recent flood events, the presentation should be topical and informative.
Floodplain management decisions need to satisfy the social and economic needs of the community as well as maintain or enhance the natural ecosystems that the floodplain sustains. The Floodplain Development Manual, released in 2005, outlines processes for ensuring these needs are addressed through the development of floodplain management plans.
Floodplains are an integral part of the landscape and in the Northern Region with floods forming part of life in the region, as has been evident during the recent flood events. The assessment of works within floodplain areas are assessed on the basis of floodplain
