Long Term Objectives
The National Commitee on Fuels and Energy (NCFE) will focus on the future of the industry to:
- Become one of the acknowledged reference points for advice on energy issues by government and industry;
- Study the present de-engineering and de-skilling of the industry, the consequences of this to members and possible actions to ensure adequate and technical personnel in the future.
In the short term, the focus is on immediate energy issues concerned with the competitive electricity market, deregulation of the gas industry and increasing concern for environmental matters:
- Contribute to the ongoing debate on National Greenhouse Response to promote rational governmental action;
- Contribute to the present consideration of urban air quality for the medium and long term;
- Prepare short papers on topical and emerging energy issues for inclusion on paper and electronic media, such as EOL and Web sites, as appropriate;
- Seek to build relationships with other energy related organisations;
- Other energy related matters requested by the Chemical College .
Terms of Reference
The National Committee on Fuels and Energy (NCFE) was formed by the Engineers Australia Chemical College in 1978 to provide submissions on the Energy 2000 policy papers being developed by the then Federal Government. The current membership of the Committee believes that the major contribution for the next business planning period should focus on the following activities:
- Awareness of proposed changes in the industry and providing papers and submissions for the consideration of Engineers Australia policy unit;
- Keeping the members of Engineers Australia aware of developments in the industry, using papers and electronic means and seeking their opinions so as to be in a better position to provide informed guidance to Engineers Australia policy managers and general management;
- Nominate Committee members to sit on appropriate inquiries, where approached by Engineers Australia management;
- Liaise with other industry associations/organisations representing energy interests for mutual benefit;
- Encourage an awareness of sustainable energy opportunities in the energy field.
