About the Awards
The awards apply to practising engineers under the age of 35. They seek to acknowledge and reward young professional engineers and young engineering technologists and officers who have:
- realised competence and significant achievement in community affairs;
- a demonstrated understanding of the role and purpose of the engineering profession in society;
- proficiency in the use of communication skills in engineering projects;
- effective communication with public media.
Each Division of Engineers Australia, in partnership with the local YEA group may run its own competitions to nominate a single finalist from each occupational category for the national award.
The awards are presented at state and territory levels by the divisions of Engineers Australia. Winners go on to vie for the national title. The national winner is announced at the Australian Engineering Excellence Awards (AEEA), which is usually held in Canberra during November.
