APEC Engineer Register

The APEC Engineer Register is an initiative of the Commonwealth Department of Education Science and Training (formerly DETYA) and Engineers Australia to facilitate cross-border mobility for professional engineers in the APEC Region.

Registrants on the APEC Engineer Register, Australia are entitled to use the postnominal APEC Engineer and the postnominal IntPE(Aus) which confers similar recognition to APEC Engineer in the non APEC economies of India, Ireland, South Africa, Sri Lanka and the United Kingdom.

The eligibility criteria for registration on the APEC Engineer Register, Australia are:

  1. Successful completion of an Engineers Australia accredited or recognised undergraduate engineering course.
  2. Assessment by Engineers Australia as eligible for independent practice.
  3. A minimum of seven years practical experience since graduation.
  4. At least two years in responsible charge of significant engineering work.
  5. Maintenance of continuing professional development at a satisfactory level.

FIEAust CPEng and FIEAust CPEng NER members of Engineers Australia are automatically eligible to apply for registration on the APEC Engineer Register without further assessment. MIEAust CPEng and MIEAust CPEng NER who meet the eligibility criteria should download and complete the application form and email their completed form and supporting documentation to the Member Services Team at memberservices@engineersaustralia.org.au.

Register of International Engineering Technicians

Engineers Australia is a participant in the International Engineering Alliance, comprising of engineering organisations and government agencies that have implemented agreements of substantial equivalence such as the APEC Engineering Agreement and the International Professional Engineer Agreement.

An in principal agreement was reached at the 2016 meeting of the International Engineering Alliance to implement an agreement for International Engineering Technicians (AIET). This agreement covers the substantial equivalence of assessment requirements for practitioners with a standing equivalent to our Engineering Associates. This in principal agreement was reached, in our case, on the basis of the Assessment Statement.

Registrants on the Register of International Engineering Technicians Australia, are entitled to use the postnominal IntETn(Aus).  Similar registers are being established in UK, Ireland, Canada, South Africa and New Zealand.

The eligibility criteria for registration on the Register or International Engineering Technicians Australia as set out in the Assessment Statement, are:

  1. Successful completion of an Engineers Australia accredited or recognised engineering course at Advanced Diploma or Associate Degree level
  2. Assessment by Engineers Australia as eligible for Chartered status
  3. A minimum of five years practical experience
  4. At least one year as a fully qualified Engineering Associate
  5. Maintenance of continuing professional development at a satisfactory level

AFIEAust CEngA and AFIEAust CEngA NER members of Engineers Australia are automatically eligible to apply for registration on the Register or International Engineering Technicians without further assessment. To apply download the application form and email your completed form to the Member Services Team at memberservices@engineersaustralia.org.au.

AMIEAust CEngA and AMIEAust CEngA NER who meet the eligibility criteria should download and complete the application form and email their completed form and supporting documentation to the Member Services Team at memberservices@engineersaustralia.org.au.
