Insurance Standards

Insurance Standards

Members of Engineers Australia who are members of the Engineering Science and Technology Professional Standards Society (ESTPSS) must, as a minimum, have and maintain professional indemnity and public liability insurance policies that conform to the Insurance Standards determined by the National Council of Engineers Australia.

Ensuring compliance

Each year, when renewing their membership of the ESTPSS, members must provide evidence of the currency of their professional indemnity and public liability insurance policies, together with any unusual or specific endorsements and/or exclusions imposed by the insurer   A Checklist  is available to use in determining whether your policies comply with the insurance stanards.

Ongoing review

Engineers Australia will continually review the adequacy of the limitations of liability established for its members, their insurance requirements and their claims performances.

Disclosure must be made when applying to join the ESTPSS of professional indemnity insurance claims incurred or alerts reported.  Similarly, at the time of the annual renewal disclosure is to be made of claims incurred or alerts reported during the previous year. The centralised collection of professional indemnity insurance claims and alert data is seen as critical to the ongoing monitoring of the scheme.
