Overseas Chapters and Interest Groups

Engineers Australia has around 5,500 members located in about 100 countries worldwide. We have established local Chapters around the world so we can provide better service to our global membership.

Most overseas members are located in East and South East Asia. So far, local Chapters have been set up in Hong Kong, Malaysia, Singapore and the UK; with an Interest Group in the USA.

Hong Kong

The Hong Kong Chapter was established in 2002 to provide a common platform for Hong Kong-based members of Engineers Australia to share experiences and knowledge through seminars, technical talks, social functions and technical visits. There are currently about 1,700 members in Hong Kong.

Engineers Australia members who visit Hong Kong are welcome to contact the Chapter and attend the ongoing activities. The Chapter is managed by a dedicated volunteer Executive Committee, elected from the membership annually.

Malaysia

The Malaysian Chapter was launched at the Australian High Commission in Kuala Lumpur on 23 May 1991 with the objective of facilitating contact among all grades of Engineers Australia members residing in Malaysia and the National Office.

The Chapter enjoys a very close and co-operative relationship with the Institution of Engineers Malaysia (IEM), and most of our Malaysian members are also members of IEM. The two bodies organise joint activities from time to time.

The Chapter is administered by a group of volunteer members who meet regularly to organise a wide range of activities. The Chapter is in the process of setting up a website and a link will be provided in the near future.

Singapore

The Singapore Chapter was formed in 1993, to facilitate contact amongst all grades of members residing in Singapore through regular networking activities. It is run by a volunteer executive committee comprising members of the Institution and has about 600 financial members. Since its formation, the Chapter has been very active in organising technical talks, seminars, workshops and site visits as well as social gathering and functions. In addition, the Group also offers support to members seeking to achieve chartered status.

The Singapore Chapter is also a member of the National Committee of Engineering Organisations, which was set up under the auspices of the Institution of Engineers Singapore. It maintains close connections with other local engineering professional bodies.

United Kingdom

The UK Chapter aims to provide support, advice and a social network so that members of Engineers Australia can make the most of their engineering experience in the United Kingdom. The Chapter holds a number of technical and social events throughout the year which are becoming increasingly popular and well attended. Along with tours and chartered seminars, the highlight of the calendar is the annual Christmas soiree held in conjunction with the Institute of Professional Engineers New Zealand at the Australian and New Zealand High Commissions in London.

The Chapter is run by a committee of dedicated volunteers and always welcomes new members.

USA

Engineers Australia has over 300 members resident in the USA. Although there have been attempts to set up a chapter/interest group in the past, our efforts have been unsuccessful for various reasons.

In July 2006, through the commitment and hard work of a core group of members based in San Diego, an interest group was set up in the USA.

The core group of the Interest Group meets face to face in San Diego, but interaction with members in other parts of the USA is usually done via email. While the Interest Group is not a formal chapter of Engineers Australia, the Group will welcome you if you travel to the USA.

The Middle East

In August 2009 and interest group based in Dubai was set up to interact with our members in the region.
