Risk Management Requirements

Risk Management Requirements

Corporations, partnerships or sole practitioners must demonstrate that they have in place and maintain risk management systems in their practice which, as a minimum, address the core risk management components set down in Engineers Australia's Risk Management Strategies Guide:

  • job acceptance protocol
  • terms of engagement
  • work procedures
  • business plan.

Members are encouraged to use the guide to help them develop a suitable risk management plan. It is available free to members of Engineers Australia through the website. Both electronic and hard copy documents may also be purchased through Engineers Media.

When lodging an application for membership of the ESTPSS, members will have to provide selected documentation for three projects or jobs completed within the 12 months prior to lodgement. The documentation will be assessed to determine whether there are risk management strategies in your engineering practice that comply with the risk management strategies set down for membership of the ESTPSS.

For each of the three projects or jobs, you must provide summary documents covering:

  • The relationship between you and your client. This should include the form of agreement or contract and the job acceptance protocol.
  • The scope of work undertaken. Provide a copy of the brief or client's instructions for the particular job.
  • The work produced. Provide a copy of the quality control checklist(s) used for this job.

You can find more detailed information in the Risk Management Strategies Guide.

Do not provide large quantities of documentation for the risk management audit. Copies of checklists or summaries should be sufficient to demonstrate that you have in place and use strategies or systems to cover core risk areas. If the material you provide is not adequate you may be requested to provide additional information.
