The Board does, however, acknowledge that many professionals leave the full-time workforce, at some point in the course of or as they approach the end of their careers, because of a range of personal and external circumstances. Professionals registered on NPER and NETR must undertake continuing professional development (CPD) to ensure that they continue to develop relevant knowledge, skill, expertise and judgement throughout their career. They must keep records of their CPD activities as these will be audited, normally about once every five years.
The Board has adopted minimum requirements for CPD to ensure that its obligations to the community are met.
The CPD Compliance Policy, effective from January 2007, requires that over the most recent three years, a registered professional must undertake a minimum of 150 hours of CPD, of which:
Engineering academics and teachers, in addition to the 150 hours, must demonstrate at least 40 hours industry involvement in any three-year period.
