Registering but not Joining Engineers Australia

If you answered "Yes" to the question "Do you wish to register on NPER without joining Engineers Australia?" this page is for you. You do not need to join the Engineers Australia in order to register on NPER.

There is no separate handbook available to persons who wish to register on NPER without joining Engineers Australia. It is normally recommended that applicants obtain the Chartered Status Handbook and state on the form that they only want registration on NPER. However, the same standards and assessment procedures apply. Applicants who choose not to join Engineers Australia must submit a completed registered_applicants_declaration in addition to the Application for Registration.

Applicants should be aware that the fees payable will be higher if you do not join Engineers Australia:

All prices include Goods and Services Tax (GST). The fees shown below come into effect 1 January 2011. The fee increases are the first for several years, and represent the cost of providing the service.

* The fee for a Stage 1 Assessment is $605, if the assessment is necessary.

By Mutual Recognition

Professional engineers who have qualified and practised in certain foreign countries where their professional engineering association has entered an agreement on mutual recognition with Engineers Australia may already qualify for registration. You should refer to information on Mutual Recognition Agreements on the web. If you are uncertain, please contact the Registrar. You do not need to join Engineers Australia to take advantage of MRAs.
