International
The APEC Engineer Register is an initiative of the Commonwealth Government and Engineers Australia to facilitate cross border mobility for professional engineers in the APEC Region. An APEC Engineer Register has been established in Australia, Canada, Hong Kong China, Indonesia, Japan, Korea, Malaysia, New Zealand, the Philippines, Thailand and the United States of America.
The Washington Accord Signatories have also agreed on mutual recognition for experienced engineers. For this purpose, constituted as the Engineers Mobility Forum (EMF), Signatories have agreed to establish and maintain an EMF International Register of Professional Engineers as a basis for consultation within their respective constituencies. An EMF International Register is being established by Australia, Canada, Hong Kong China, Ireland, Japan, Korea, Malaysia, New Zealand, South Africa, UK and USA.
Registered APEC Engineers are accessible through rpsearch under the Category of International Registers. Inclusion on the Register is governed by criteria agreed to by the participating economies. For the Australian Register these are:
- Successful completion of an Engineers Australia accredited or recognised undergraduate engineering course.
- Assessment by Engineers Australia as eligible for independent practice.
- A minimum of seven years practical experience since graduation.
- At least two years in responsible charge of significant engineering work.
- Maintenance of continuing professional development at a satisfactory level.
