Assessment for RPEQ

In line with the co-regulatory approach taken between professional engineering bodies and the Board of Professional Engineers Queensland (BPEQ), a new registration scheme was introduced in Queensland from 1 July 2008.

Under the new scheme, professional engineering bodies were invited to apply to the Board for approval of a scheme to assess requirements for registration in approved areas of engineering. The Minister for Public Works, Housing and Information and Communication Technology appointed Engineers Australia and the Australian Institute of Mining and Metallurgy (AusIMM) as Assessment Entities.

Details of the new registration scheme can be obtained from the BPEQ.

Assessment of Qualifications and Competencies under the new legislation

From 1 July, a successful assessment of qualifications and competencies is required before an application is lodged with the Board of Professional Engineers of Queensland for registration as a registered professional engineer of Queensland (RPEQ).

Engineers Australia will assess an engineer's qualifications and competencies in the following areas of engineering, as set out in its approved Assessment Scheme:

aerospace biomedical building services chemical civil
electrical environmental management mechanical structural
naval architecture ITEE
