2010 President wants greater inclusiveness across regional Queensland
The 2010 President of Engineers Australia Queensland Division was inducted at an event in Brisbane on Friday 11 December 2009. The event was attended by many eminent engineering identities including Engineers Australia’s newly appointed National President, Doug Hargreaves, former Division Presidents, Honorary Fellows, Congress and Division Committee representatives.
Following the Division’s Annual General Meeting, Mike Brady was officially handed the Presidential medal from 2009 President, Andrew Chapman.
Brady’s first act as the new President was to congratulate Chapman on his outstanding performance throughout 2009, particularly for his foresight and leadership of the Engineering Wonders of Queensland project.
Brady’s inaugural speech as President highlighted some of the goals he hopes to achieve during the year ahead. “In my new role as the 2010 President, I appreciate the trust and confidence Queensland members have given me. It is humbling to be recognised by your peers and to be given the opportunity to lead our profession across state of Queensland,” Brady said.
Brady identified the following priorities for his term as President:
- Enhance support to regional Queensland and Engineers Australia’s Local Groups, with greater inclusiveness of regional perspectives in policy and advocacy issues.
- Developing collaborative engagements with other associations, including IPWEAQ, AusIMM, and CCF.
- Influence federal, state and local government planning and investment through the release of the Infrastructure Report Card in mid-2010.
- Establish a Migrant Engineer Support Group in Queensland.
- Influence the sustainable energy debate in Queensland.
Brady has 27 years of management, construction, engineering and design experience with state and local governments. He is a Registered Professional Engineer of Queensland, holds Fellow status with Engineers Australia, and is a Civil College Member.
Brady’s qualifications include a Master of Local Government Management (1994), Graduate Diploma in Local Government Engineering (1991), and a Bachelor of Engineering (Civil) (1989).
As A/Manager for the Asphalt Operations Group of Brisbane City Council, Brady is responsible for the management and coordination of three quarries, two asphalt plants, and a major road surfacing operation. With 260 employees, Asphalt Operations has an annual turnover in-excess of $110 million, supplying products and services in both internal and external markets.
