The 24th Warman Competition a huge success
On Sunday the 2nd October at the Australian Technology Park in Sydney, fifteen Universities from across Australia and New Zealand competed head-to-head in a bid to be named the annual Warman Design and Build Competition champion!
An initiative of the National Committee on Engineering Design, and sponsored annually by Weir Minerals, the Warman Design and Build Competition asks competing students to design, build and prove a prototype system in a laboratory environment that serves to meet specified requirements.
This year, ‘Project PnP’ required that students design the best system to pick and place produce in the form of spherical containers between production and warehousing facilities.
Based on their design, compliance with the project brief, and the performance of the device on the day, teams were ranked, with a first, second and third prize awarded, as well as three design awards, and one ‘judges choice’.
This year, the University of Newcastle’s ‘Warmanator’ took out first prize, the University of South Australia’s ‘Magi Grab’ taking second, and Monash University’s ‘FanForce’ taking third.
Design awards were presented to James Cook University, the University of Ballarat, and Flinders University, the University of South Australia also taking out the judges choice award.
