Alcoa signs PDP

Alcoa’s young engineers will benefit from a Professional Development Program (PDP) agreement between Alcoa World Alumina and the Institution of Engineers Australia.

Alcoa World Alumina Australia Victorian Operations, consisting of Anglesea, Pt Henry Smelter and Portland Aluminium, and the Institution of Engineers Australia recently signed a partnership agreement that will facilitate Alcoa’s engineers in achieving Chartered status.

The agreement underpins a structured professional development program that is designed to assist both young engineering graduates, and also more experienced engineers, to develop their professional skills with regular review of key competencies.

Once complete, participants can apply for Chartered Professional Engineering status, an internationally recognised accreditation.

Engineers Australia Industry and Accreditation Manager Glenda Graham said to achieve Chartered status, participants must demonstrate competencies in a professional role under the guidance of a mentor.

“Practical experience in professional roles is fundamental to the development of engineers so that they are provided with a range of professional development experiences including workshops and seminars,” she said.

Portland Aluminium Operations Manager John Osborne said that the partnership highlighted the company’s philosophy of investing and developing employees.

The partnership encompasses all of Alcoa Australia’s operations.
