Appointment of Chairman for Tasmanian Infrastructure Advisory Council is a strong move for the future

The appointment of Mr Philip Clark AM as Chairman of the Tasmanian Infrastructure Advisory Council has been welcomed by Engineers Australia as a strong and timely commitment by the Tasmanian Government to drive better outcomes for the State’s infrastructure challenges.

The Tasmania Division President of Engineers Australia, Greg Walters, said, “Since Engineers Australia produced the first infrastructure report card for Tasmania in 2005, concerns about the adequacy of our State’s infrastructure have continued to be high on the agenda of political, business and community debate.

“Our 2005 report card had at its core the need for solidly-based analysis and guidance that was brought together through an inclusive process of government, industry, the professions and the community.

“The 2010 Engineers Australia Tasmania Infrastructure Report Card showed that our State’s infrastructure remained generally stressed, and was mostly rated as either just adequate or poor.

“The issues surrounding Tasmania’s infrastructure are complex and the initiative to establish the Council earlier last year, as part of the Tasmanian Infrastructure Strategy, was certainly the right move.

“The appointment of Mr Clark to chair the Council is the opportunity to get on with recommendations and actions that will face-up to the realities of the current and future infrastructure challenges,” Greg Walters said.
