I am attending the ASEAN Australian Engineering Congress (Conference) in Kuching, Sarawak,East Malaysia, in July 2011 at which I will be a keynote speaker. The conference is a joint initiative between Engineers Australia Malaysian Chapter, the Kuching Campus of Australia' Swinburne University of Technology and the Sarawak Development Institute. The theme of the conference is "Engineering for Sustainability". There is also a pre-conference workshop on "Embedding Sustainability in Engineering Subject and Programs" convened by the Swinburne University's Sarawak Campus on 24 July 2011.

This is an excellent program which highlights the critical need for sustainable engineering in developing nations in the region. The pre and post congress tours also provide an opportunity to see the many wonders in Sarawak - the land of the Hornbills. Besides the hornbills, you can still find virgin rain forests, native long houses, orang-utans and limestone caves where birds' nests (a highly prized delicacy in Chinese cuisine) are collected.

More information is available at www.aaec2011.com I look forward to seeing as many of you there as possible.

Signed:

Merv Lindsay
National President
