Call for Papers - AGS Seminar on Geotechnical Near-Misses and Failures

The Western Australian Chapter of the Australian Geomechnics Society (AGS) is pleased to provide notice of a Seminar on Geotechnical Near-Misses and Failures. This seminar will present local and international case studies dealing with near-misses and failures in the geotechnical field. It Is aimed at all geotechnical engineers, ranging for students and recent graduates to experienced practitioners (consultants and contractors) to highlight the risks and pitfalls that can and have impacted projects in Australia and internationally.

The seminar will be held on Friday, 16 September 2011. Invited speakers that will be presenting at the seminar include:

  • John Foster (former Chairman of ACEA WA Division and founder of Perth geotechnical firm of Soil and Rock (now Coffey Geotechnics))
  • International Speaker (TBA)

Call for Papers
The AGS committee invites local practitioners and contractors to submit a technical paper or case study on geotechnical near-misses and failures. Prospective authors and presenter are therefore invited to submit abstracts of not more than 500 words by 15 May 2011 for consideration by the Organising Committee to Damon Sunderland (Damon.Sunderland@arup.com.au)

Authors will be advised by 31 May 2011 if their abstract has been accepted. Technical papers and case studies will need to be submitted by 15 July 2011 for peer review by the AGS Committee. Note:

If presenters do not wish to submit a formal paper but only a power-point based presentation – the slides, together with accompanying notes on each slide, are to be submitted by 15 July 2011 for review. Peer review will be completed by 30 July 2011 and submission of final papers or presentations will be by 15 August 2011 for inclusion in the seminar proceedings. Selected papers will be published in the AGS Journal.
