Engineers Engaging in Australias Population Debate

Tuesday 1st June 2010

5.30pm for 6.00pm until 7.30pm

Engineers Australia Auditorium, 21 Bedford Street, North Melbourne

Professor Doug Hargreaves is the current National President of Engineers Australia, and the Head of the School of Engineering Systems at Queensland University of Technology (QUT), Brisbane, Australia.

On Tuesday 1st June 2010, Professor Hargreaves, will be presenting his views on how Engineers contribution is vital to the debate on Australia’s growing Population.

It is generally accepted that the population in Australia will increase significantly and possibly reach about 35 million by 2050, this will demand ‘increases in power, water, food and infrastructure that will stretch the innovative capacity of the engineering profession’.

So the question becomes how do we (Engineers Australia, who has a policy on sustainability) conceptualise, design, implement and operate new ways of life in a sustainable manner?
