Earthquake design for buildings wins engineering medal
The excellence of the contribution to civil engineering, through 15 years of research on
earthquake design for buildings in Australia, has been recognised by the awarding of the
Engineer Australia’s 2006 WH Warren Medal to Professor John Wilson of Swinburne University
of Technology, and Associate Professor Nelson Lam of the University of Melbourne.
Their joint paper ‘Earthquake Design of Buildings in Australia using Velocity and Displacement
Principles’ was judged by the Civil College of Engineers Australia as the best paper in the
discipline of civil engineering.
