The Australian Engineering Week Pre Launch took place on Thursday June 23 in Martin Place. The day was a great opportunity to share with Sydney the upcoming events that will be taking place as part of Australian Engineering Week as well as a chance to promote engineering within the broader community.

This year we were lucky enough to be joined by Engineers Without Boarders who are helping us to celebrate the Year of Humanitarian Engineering, they brought along with them some great engineered designs including a solar cooker which allowed passers by to heat up their lunch while talking to one of our volunteers about the technology.

We were also joined by some of our sponsors including RailCorp, Engineering Education Australia and Macquarie University along side their robot who all helped to spread the word about engineering on the day.

The Annual Pre Launch Paper Plane Competition ran again with great excitement. Each year we are astounded by the lengths and heights of these well crafted paper planes, the winner this year was Alex  ILyukevich with total air time of 7.46 seconds and distance of 7.16 metres. For this great feet Alex won two tickets on the Thunder Jet Boat in Sydney’s Darling Harbour.

Australian Engineering Week will run from August 1-7 to register to attend any of the events visits www.makeitso.org.au/aew
