Engineers rebuilding war-damaged school in Sierra Leone
Engineering for Change reports on how a once prestigious school in Sierra Leone is being slowly rebuilt after falling into disrepair during the country’s decade-long civil war in the 1990s.
Since 2009, volunteers with Engineers Without Borders (EWB) have been working to repair the school. To date they have built toilets and designed a solar electric system. Next on the agenda is repairing buildings and restoring running water.
The team is looking for collaborators, and has posted the project in a workspace on E4C.
“The special merit of a school project is the potential to impact far more lives than the immediate beneficiaries,” said John Cirucci, founder of the EWB chapter. “Every student who goes further with her or his education will contribute to building Sierra Leone.”
