Engineers support quick action for carbon trading scheme

Engineers Australia has called on the Federal Government to move quickly to introduce a carbon trading scheme so that emissions of greenhouse gases are no longer treated as costless.

The National President of Engineers Australia, Rolfe Hartley, said, ”Climate change is an economic, social and environmental risk and we must responsibly develop Australia’s energy, technology and expertise to provide efficient, reliable and competitively priced energy options.

“Australia’s energy policy needs to include a wide range of options and it is clear that a carbon
trading scheme, that includes the use of appropriate penalties for emitters, is central to removing
any notion that there is not a real cost for greenhouse gas emissions.
