The Global Warming Fad: Climate Context as a Better Basis for Policy

new image

Friday the 13th was the day climate change issues were discussed at the University of Western Sydney Kingswood campus; a somewhat special date as it was a matter of finding the time in Prof Carter’s  busy schedule to fit in another presentation; a bit like waiting for the 4 planets to align. Prof. Robert Carter delivered the “The Global Warming Fad” presentation, pointing out the many misconceptions that seem to abound.  Despite limited advertising some 35 people came to listen to Prof. Carter’s presentation. Prof Cater brought a new perspective into the discussions about “climate change”. To most it would seem “climate change” refers to the detrimental changes to climate caused by the activities of mankind; whatever happened to the notion of “natural” climate change. Prof. Carter’s talk tried to introduce some context and balance into the reckoning, bucking the trend with the emphasis on a carbon tax. The talk was very well presented and questions came from young and old in the audience.

The contents of his presentation are aptly summarised in his book  “Climate: the Counter Consensus”. For those interested, a video of a similar presentation may be found at the following url:      http://members.iinet.net.au/~glrmc/new_page_1.htm
