But I like my old stove …

Researchers know the basic cooking stoves used in developing countries pose significant health risks to their users. And many people, including our own Make it so winner and university teams, are working to put cleaner stoves in kitchens. But what happens when the cooks don’t want to part with their old stoves?

A study conducted by the Department of Anthropology, Princeton University (‘Sustaining Culture with Sustainable Stoves: The Role of Tradition in Providing Clean-Burning Stoves to Developing Countries’), looks at the cultural obstacles to the success of clean stove programs in developing countries.
