IMPORTANT INFORMATION FOR MEMBERS OF ENGINEERS AUSTRALIA - TELEPHONE BASED DATA CLEANSING PROJECT

Engineers Australia National and Division offices conduct several activities during the year which require contacting you, our members, by mail, phone and email.  These activities include membership renewals & reminders, the monthly Engineers Australia magazines, Member Benefit Offers, notices of workshops & seminars & the e-newsletters.
 
EA maintains a database in excess of 94,000 member details.  Over the next 3-4 weeks Engineers Australia will be contacting those members who have not responded to the four privacy choice questions. Only members living in Australia will be contacted.
 
During this process you will be asked to verify the following details:
  • Name
  • DOB
  • Title & post nominals
  • Addresses
  • Phone & fax numbers (mobile & land line)
  • Email address
  • Privacy Choice preferences
When you receive the call, we will require approximately 2-3 minutes of your time to verify the details stated above.  It is anticipated that the outcome of this process will be an up-to-date database, which will assist in more efficient communication with you, the member.

Telephone Survey 100% agree with the previous comments. I will never give away this kind of information over the phone (or even via email). Surely IEAust can reconfirm this kind of information when members renew their membership.

Telephone Survey Totally agree with the above. I would NEVER give this sort of information when receiving a phone call. Even when receiving an email requesting similar information, I would first verify whether the email came from a reliable source before sending any reply. Phishing emails can look very legitimate with borrowed company logos and (fake) contact and reply details.

You must be disconnected from the real world I will NEVER respond to an inquiry of this nature - This is a classic approach for identity theft. I am quite disgusted that this is even contemplated

Database Data Cleansing software I agree with the previous comments about disclosing private info over the phone. Let Australian technology help do this job in a smarter way: Dr. Fedja Hadzic & Dr. Michael Hecker, University of Western Australia, have developed a very powerful "Domain Driven Data Cleansing and Information Quality Assurance Tool for Large Complex Databases". Engineers Australia should be at the forefront of using this type of tools.
