Invitation to take part in research - Early Career Experiences of Professional Engineers
What is this study about?
This research is about the early career experiences of professional engineers. It will investigate how engineers’ career experiences are affected by their workplace, their colleagues, the industry and their interests outside work. It will consider whether these experiences impact on how engineers feel about their future in the industry and whether there are similarities and differences between men’s and women’s experiences.
Who can take part?
We would like to speak to you if you are an early career engineer working anywhere in Australia. We would particularly like to speak to you if you graduated after 2000.
If I take part, what do I have to do?
If you decide to take part in the study, we will ask you to complete a short (5 minute) background survey. We will also arrange a telephone interview at a time that suits you. The interview will take about an hour.
What does the study include?
The survey will ask about your demographic characteristics, education and engineering discipline. The interview will include questions about why you chose to become an engineer, your career so far, your current job, factors or people that may have helped or hindered your career and your future career intentions.
What if I don’t want to take part or what if I change my mind later?
Taking part in the study is voluntary. You do not have to take part if you don’t want to. If you decide to take part and then change your mind, you can leave (withdraw) from the study at any time. After starting the interview, you can choose not to answer some questions and you are free to stop the interview at any time.
Who will see the results?
What you tell us in the interviews will be completely confidential and you will not be identified in any publication or report about the study. You will receive a summary of the research findings if you wish.
What do I do now?
