The man who lived October Sky
ASME has a feature on Homer Hickam, the man behind the film October Sky, which told the story of a teenager in a small coal mining town in West Virginia who had little chance to escape the mines—until he found a love and ability for rocketry.
It’s a movie that inspired many to become engineers, as indeed did Hickam, who worked first for the U.S. Army and then NASA.
