Motorless drilling rig for water wells
Engineering for Change reports: ‘A new motorless drilling rig for water wells can bore holes down to 250 feet, powered by people. With just three people spinning it (and a lot of patience) it can even penetrate rock.
‘The device is rugged, simple to operate, has the potential for local manufacture and costs as little as a tenth that of motorized drills, its makers say. In communities in which women can spend hours every day gathering water, well-drilling machines like this can change lives.’
