North-West Shelf’s Angel project wins engineering excellence award
The $1.6 billion Angel gas processing platform located 120 kilometres off Karratha has won the overall award at the 2009 WA Engineering Excellence Awards announced in Perth on 12 September.
The project has set a world standard for not-normally-manned (NNM) gas processing facilities, and is believed to be the most complex, highest production facility of its type in the world, with state-of-the-art environmental monitoring.
Other major projects that won awards include the:
• Australian Marine Complex Floating Dock
• New Perth-Bunbury Highway, and
• Gap Ridge Accommodation Village (Karratha).
There were 11 category winners in the awards, which are organised by the WA Division of Engineers Australia.
“The Engineering Excellence Awards provide an opportunity to acknowledge and celebrate the achievements of cutting edge projects, management and innovation in Western Australia,” said Engineers Australia WA Division President Chris Fitzhardinge.
As well as the overall award, the Angel project also won the Resource Development category. The platform is operated by Woodside and has a production capacity of 800 million cubic feet of gas and 50,000 barrels of condensate a day.
It is located 120 km off Karratha in about 80m of water and supplied by three large-bore, sub-sea wells, and powered and controlled remotely from the North Rankin A platform 50 km away.
