SA School Wins Grand Challenge

We are pleased to advise that Immanuel College came in first place and was crowned the 2008 national Science and Engineering Challenge champion.  Temple Christian College, South Australia’s other finalist, also excelled and finished a fantastic 5th place.  This is the first time a school from South Australia has won the Grand Challenge.

The Challenge is a joint project conducted by the Engineers Australia, Rotary and the University of Newcastle aimed at inspiring young people to consider a career in the sciences, engineering or other technology related areas.  The Challenge represents a unique opportunity for young people in our community.  The hands on competitive nature of the Challenge allows students to experience the creative side of science and engineering in a fun atmosphere.

The Science and Engineering Challenge in South Australia was sponsored by Department of Trade and Economic Development, Department for Transport, Energy and Infrastructure, University of Adelaide, University of South Australia, Flinders University, ASC Pty Ltd, Kimberly-Clark Australia, Flinders Power, OneSteel, Port Pirie Regional Council, Nyrstar and Southern Flinders Development Board.

We would also like to acknowledge the valuable time and efforts dedicated to the challenge by our volunteers.  Without the support of these volunteers the Science and Engineering Challenge would not take place.

Congratulations to both Immanuel College and Temple Christian College on their outstanding achievements.
