Safety expert awarded transport medal
Emeritus professor Rod Troutbeck has been awarded the Engineers Australia National Committee for Transport''s (NCTR) Transport Medal, recognising his outstanding contribution to transport in Australia.
Among the professional roles he has held, Troutbeck was principal research scientist at the Australian Road Research Board. In his 15 years there, he established the effectiveness of safety barriers, the effect of longer vehicles in the traffic stream on drivers'' overtaking behaviour, the performance of roundabouts and innovative video data collection techniques. This research is still internationally recognised.
He has also served as the head of civil engineering at the Queensland University of Technology and founded a consultancy, Troutbeck and Associates. He has remained connected to QUT through an adjunct professor position with the Centre for Accident Research and Road Safety, Queensland.
An Engineers Australia fellow, Troutbeck has been the Transport Panel chair for a number of years.
As the recipient of medal, he will now give a series of presentations around Australia as an eminent speaker.
