Skills shortages drive salaries up again, survey finds
Average salary packages for public sector engineers have surpassed the six-figure mark, according to the newly published 2011 Engineers Australia Salary and Benefits Survey. Public sector engineers have also seen a reduction in the gap between their salary packages and those of their private sector counterparts from 17% to 10% over the past 12 months.
Results indicate that the effects of the Global Financial Crisis have subsided, with considerable salary increases across all disciplines, around 9% on average. This demand is related to an overall skills shortage which, according to respondents, remains the primary concern for employers.
Commissioned by Engineers Australia and conducted by NewFocus, the 2011 survey represents the remuneration of 100,000 engineers from 430 Australian companies.
