Sustainable engineering practices for the planet

International and national experts have come together in Perth today to discuss issues, actions and the skills necessary to make advances in sustainable engineering practices for the planet.

The two-day 2007 International Conference on Engineering Sustainability is being hosted by Engineers Australia’s Society for Sustainability and Environmental Engineering at the Perth Sheraton Hotel.

Under the theme of “Sustainability in a changing world”, the conference topics will include the impacts of climate change, cleaner production and zero emissions, sustainable water management, energy efficiency and conservation, sustainable urban development and sustainability assessment and reporting.

Speaking at the opening of the conference today, Rolfe Hartley, National President of Engineers Australia, said that there could be no subject more critical to the future of this planet than sustainability.
